Minor Surgery

Minor surgery in Houston, TX: moles, cysts and lipomas. Outpatient procedure in Spanish, with affordable pricing.

At Clínica Hispana Familiar 529 minor outpatient surgery is performed under local anesthesia, such as removal of moles, cysts and lipomas, in a single visit and with care in Spanish. No appointment and no insurance needed, in northwest Houston.

Which procedures are performed?

  • Removal of moles and skin lesions
  • Excision of sebaceous and epidermoid cysts
  • Removal of lipomas, the fatty lumps under the skin
  • Removal of warts and skin tags
  • Biopsy of suspicious lesions, sent to the pathology lab
  • Removal of superficial foreign bodies, such as splinters or glass

When should a mole or lump be removed?

  • A mole that changes in size, color or shape, has irregular borders, measures more than 6 millimeters, bleeds or itches: the ABCDE signs
  • A cyst that becomes inflamed, hurts or gets infected repeatedly
  • A lipoma that grows or bothers you with clothing or movement
  • Any lesion the medical team considers necessary to analyze

What is the procedure, step by step?

  1. 1The medical team examines the lesion and, if needed, evaluates it with in-clinic ultrasound.
  2. 2The skin is cleaned and local anesthesia is applied; after the pinch you feel no pain, only pressure.
  3. 3The entire lesion is removed with a margin of healthy skin.
  4. 4The wound is closed with stitches and covered with a bandage.
  5. 5The lesion is sent to pathology when there is suspicion, and the result takes 1 to 2 weeks.

The procedure usually takes 20 to 45 minutes.

How do I care for the wound afterward?

  • Keep the bandage dry for 24 to 48 hours
  • Avoid intense exercise and stretching the area for a week
  • Take the prescribed pain reliever if there is discomfort
  • Stitches are removed at the clinic 7 to 14 days later, depending on the area
  • Come in if there is bleeding that does not stop, pus, fever or increasing pain

Will there be a scar?

Every incision leaves a mark, which becomes thinner and lighter over 6 to 12 months. Protecting it from the sun and not picking at scabs helps it be less visible.

Which cases are not operated on at the clinic?

Very large or deep lesions, lesions on the eyelid or near major nerves, and tumors requiring major surgery are referred to a surgeon or dermatologist.

How does payment work?

You don't need health insurance. Pricing is self-pay, cash and cards are accepted, and you can ask for the cost of the service by phone or WhatsApp before your visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

01What can be removed with minor surgery?

Moles and skin lesions, sebaceous and epidermoid cysts, lipomas, warts and skin tags, and shallow foreign bodies such as splinters or glass. Biopsies of suspicious lesions are also taken and sent to pathology.

02When should a mole be checked?

If it changes size, color or shape, has irregular borders, is larger than 6 millimeters, bleeds or itches: those are the ABCDE signs. A cyst that keeps flaring up or a lipoma that grows or gets in the way can be removed too.

03Will I feel pain during the procedure?

Local anesthesia is used; after the pinch you only feel pressure. The lesion is removed whole with a margin of healthy skin, closed with stitches and covered. When needed, it is first assessed with ultrasound at the clinic.

04What care do I need afterward?

Keep the dressing dry for the first days, avoid hard exercise and stretching the area, take the pain reliever you were given and come back to the clinic to have the stitches removed. Return sooner for bleeding that will not stop, pus or fever.

05Are there cases the clinic does not operate on?

Yes: very large or deep lesions, those on the eyelid or near important nerves, and tumors needing major surgery are referred to a surgeon or dermatologist.
