Flu and Tetanus (Tdap) Vaccines

Flu and tetanus vaccines in Houston, TX. Administered by medical staff in Spanish, with affordable pricing.

At Clínica Hispana Familiar 529 the annual flu vaccine and the tetanus vaccine (Td or Tdap) are administered by medical staff, with no appointment, in Spanish and without insurance, in northwest Houston. The vaccines required for the I-693 immigration medical exam are also given.

Which vaccines are given at the clinic?

  • Influenza (flu): annual dose for anyone over 6 months
  • Tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (Tdap) and the tetanus-diphtheria booster (Td)
  • Vaccines required by USCIS for the immigration exam, by age and previous record
  • Review of your vaccination card and documentation of the dose given
  • Guidance on when the next booster is due

When should I get the flu vaccine?

Every year, ideally between September and October, before the season starts. Protection takes about 2 weeks to develop and lasts the whole season. It is still worth getting in December or January if you missed it. It is especially important for people over 65, pregnant women, young children and people with diabetes, asthma or heart disease.

How often is the tetanus vaccine given?

  1. 1Adults need one Tdap dose if they never had it, and then a Td or Tdap booster every 10 years.
  2. 2After a dirty or deep wound, a booster is given if more than 5 years have passed since the last dose.
  3. 3In every pregnancy a Tdap dose is recommended between weeks 27 and 36 to protect the baby from whooping cough.
  4. 4Anyone living with a newborn should be up to date on Tdap.

What is the visit like, step by step?

  1. 1Your history, allergies and the dates of your last vaccines are reviewed.
  2. 2The vaccine is given in the arm; it takes less than a minute.
  3. 3You stay 15 minutes for observation if you have a history of allergic reactions.
  4. 4You receive the dose record for your card or paperwork.

Which side effects are normal?

Pain, redness or swelling in the arm for 1 or 2 days, and sometimes low-grade fever, headache or mild tiredness. The flu vaccine cannot cause the flu because it contains no live virus. A severe allergic reaction is very rare and is treated immediately.

When should I not get vaccinated that day?

If you have a fever or a moderate acute illness, it is better to wait until you recover. If you had a severe allergic reaction to a previous dose or to eggs, mention it before the shot.

What should I bring?

Your vaccination card or record if you have one. If it is for the immigration exam, also bring the record translated into English.

How does payment work?

You don't need health insurance. Pricing is self-pay, cash and cards are accepted, and you can ask for the cost of the service by phone or WhatsApp before your visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

01Which vaccines does the clinic give?

The annual flu shot from 6 months of age, Tdap and the Td booster against tetanus and diphtheria, and the vaccines USCIS requires for the immigration exam based on your age and record. Each dose is written on your card.

02When should I get my flu shot?

Every year, ideally in September or October, before the season; if you missed it, it still helps in December or January. It counts most for adults past 65, during pregnancy, for small children and for anyone living with diabetes, asthma or heart disease.

03I cut myself on something dirty. Do I need a tetanus booster?

You get a booster when the wound is dirty or deep and more than 5 years have passed since your last dose. Otherwise adults renew it every 10 years, and a Tdap dose is recommended in each pregnancy.

04Could getting vaccinated make me sick with the flu?

No, because it contains no live virus. Soreness or swelling in the arm for a day or two is normal, sometimes with a low fever or mild tiredness. A severe allergic reaction is very rare and is treated right away.

05Should I get vaccinated if I have a fever today?

Better to wait until you recover if you have a fever or a moderate illness. If you ever had a severe allergic reaction to a previous dose or to eggs, say so before the shot, and bring your vaccination card if you have it.
