The gynecology visit at Clínica Hispana Familiar 529 includes the Pap smear, vaginal cultures and treatment of vaginal infections, in Spanish and with no appointment needed, in northwest Houston. No health insurance is required. We are open Monday through Saturday from 9 AM to 9 PM and Sunday from 9 AM to 5 PM.

What does the gynecology visit include?

  • Pap smear (cervical cytology) to detect changes in the cervix
  • Vaginal culture to identify yeast, bacteria or trichomonas
  • Treatment of vaginal infections at the same visit
  • Evaluation of abnormal discharge, itching, burning, odor or pelvic pain
  • Mammogram order and specialist referral when needed

How often should I get a Pap smear?

U.S. guidelines recommend the first Pap smear at age 21. From 21 to 29 it is repeated every 3 years. From 30 to 65 it is repeated every 3 years, or every 5 years when combined with an HPV test. If you had an abnormal result, your doctor will schedule closer follow-up.

How do I prepare for a Pap smear?

  1. 1Choose a day when you do not have heavy menstrual bleeding.
  2. 2Avoid intercourse, douching, tampons and vaginal creams or suppositories for 48 hours before the visit.
  3. 3Bring an ID and, if you have them, your previous Pap results.
  4. 4Write down your symptoms, the date of your last period and the medications you take.

What is the procedure like and how long does it take?

Collecting the sample takes 2 to 5 minutes. The medical team places a speculum, gathers cells from the cervix with a soft brush and sends them to the lab. It may cause mild discomfort, not pain, and you can resume your activities right away. If a culture is also needed, it is taken during the same visit. Ask during your visit when results will be ready.

When should I come in without waiting for my annual checkup?

  • Discharge that changes in color, amount or odor
  • Vaginal itching or burning
  • Pain when urinating or during intercourse
  • Bleeding between periods or after intercourse
  • Pain in the lower abdomen

Is there a women's checkup package?

Yes. The clinic offers a complete women's checkup that includes a Pap smear, urine test, mammogram order and gynecology consultation, with a fixed price listed on the promotions page.

How does payment work?

You don't need health insurance. Pricing is self-pay, cash and cards are accepted, and you can ask for the cost of the service by phone or WhatsApp before your visit.
